A recent entrant into the pallet storage market is Satellite Racking which is quite similar to drive-in racking. Satellite technology is a fully automated rack entry vehicle used in Automated Storage/Retrieval Systems to store and retrieve pallet and pallet less loads. This exclusive pallet racking technology can handle various pallet types including custom sizes, with the ability to store pallets with either the long or short side leading.
The alternative to drive in is this new satellite system. Satellite is the latest in high density storage technology and aids the warehouse storage and retrieval of pallets into the channel via a satellite robot. The user places the satellite onto the face of the rack and then places the pallet onto it. Via a remote control device, the user then transmits a signal to the satellite to travel into the channel and store the pallet; similarly this can happen for the retrieval. This system has an enormous advantage over the drive in as it de-couples the forklift from the storage system. The truck never has to enter the rack or indeed touch the rack. This saves a huge amount of time in labour over the medium term and the return on investment is unquestionable. Accidents are also eliminated and this removes the need of splitting the area into blocks to keep the depth manageable.
Utilizing this Satellite pallet racking system technology to store and retrieve pallets in a high-density, multiple deep system configurations can significantly increase the capacity of existing storage space.
